(Disclaimer: Monica does not dispute the use of responsibly-prescribed painkillers to treat legitimate pain. She sympathizes with both sides of the issue and stresses that the pharmaceutical industry’s off-label opioid-marketing campaigns have not only helped create the opioid crisis, but are also the direct cause of the regulatory overreaction, which has placed barriers between millions of pain sufferers and medically-necessary opioid treatment.)
Monica Shepard wrote her first full-length novel at the age of twelve. And threw it away.
This would be the first of many attempts which would see no further development; this perfectionist hasn’t changed her ways since that first novel – until now. This time she’s taking the plunge and sharing her insatiable curiosity and bottomless empathy with her readers. The impact of greed and corruption on our community is an issue that hits close to home for her, and she hopes to help end the stigma against its victims: both those who have suffered from addiction and those in pain who have been denied access to their medication.
A civil litigation paralegal by day, Monica also creates “blawg” posts consisting of legal research and content that reflects real-life personal injury cases.
Monica is a Rhode Island native, presently situated in West Warwick, who comes from a large family of musicians and other likeminded artists, including her young, virtuoso-pianist son and amateur-comedian husband.
